What is John Stanier listening to???

Stanier and Pat

While we were in New York, we had to see if John was around. It just so happened he was in town and working on the new Battles record. It's in the very early stages of the album, but I seriously can not wait to hear some samples or a track or something!!! Battles is definitely pushing the boundaries of modern music and the concept of this super group remains to be unparalleled.

We met up for beers in Brooklyn and had some time to catch up with John. He's been living part time in Germany where I am sure he can unwind from all the touring. Battles has been just about everywhere these past few years. We talked for a good hour and the conversation ranged from life to music and both. John frequents the MONOlog and I asked him to spit some records he is listening to at the moment. Here they are:

John Stanier

1. St. Ides - Rap Commercial Compilation
Who remembers these commercials? Freaking classic!

2. Ibiza Voice - Podcast
John likes his techno and it really shows in his playing. He destroys those beats.

3. Mutek - Podcast
In 2007, MUSIQUE RISQUÉE became the official label of the MUTEK organization, replacing MUTEK_REC. For years, these two prestigious techno imprints have been on a similar musical path and have shared many of the same artists. The union of the two imprints only makes official what has been happening naturally for years.

Musique Risquée has picked up the fine catalog and hard-earned efforts of the festival’s pre-existing MUTEK_REC label and combined them with its own catalog.

4. RA: Resident Advisor - Podcast
The dance and electronic music magazine has a podcast that will feature a DJ mix, roughly one-hour long from artists across a variety of genres. All mixes are provided by the artists exclusively for RA.

5. Aerosmith - Draw the Line
Released in 1977. This album was fabulous, so iconic that there is no mention of the bands name on the album cover.

John if you are reading this...you need to get us a copy of that recording with the crazy guy that loves metal...you know.
