The Top 10 Greatest TV Show Theme Songs!!! 80's Sitcom Edition!!!

Alright, we are doing something that probably has been done, but let's not forget...good things always come back into style. We're going to count down to the number one 80's tv show theme song starting with...

10. Charles In Charge - People never realized this show almost got straight up canned. I remember watching there was a huge gap from the early episodes to the newer ones. They were on a 2 year hiatus because ratings were so low, but they brought it back and the rest is history.

9. The Golden Girls - This one is a classic. Thank you for being a friend. Who will ever forget the likes of Sophia, Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche.

8. Mr. Belvedere - The show was ridiculously funny, I mean think about it Bob Uecker, Mr. Baseball has a sitcom with classically trained actor Christopher Hewett. It's bound to make people laugh, and the theme song? Classic.

Stay tuned to the next 3 in our search for the greatest 80's sitcom theme song.

Dual cases reviewed - "The holy grail"!

As soon as we launched the Dual cases a few pro musician publications hit us up hungry to do some product reviews. We can't wait to hear what the editors who have "seen it all" have to say. Well, musicplayers.com is the first one to go live with their review...

Mono M80 Dual Electric
and Dual Bass Case

(4 out of 4 stars)

Review by: Scott Kahn

Whether you play live gigs or studio sessions, you almost always need to bring two guitars to a gig. In a typical set, there’s no time for string changes if you break one — you need to be able to grab another instrument and keep on rockin’. This necessitates bringing two instruments along, which is usually a cumbersome affair since you’re likely dealing with two guitar cases. And the problem is only confounded if you’re traveling to the gig on an airplane, where only a single gig bag will make it onto the aircraft with you.

Bass players have less to worry about in the live setting regarding string breakage, but studio players may certainly want to bring a few different instruments to a recording session.

We’ve been waiting for something like the Mono M80 Dual case for years, and this superbly engineered gig bag delivers the holy grail of guitar and bass transportation: it transports two instruments securely in a single case, is light weight and structural rigid, is weatherproof, and it conveniently holds plenty of extras in multiple pockets.

We examined the Electric case and fell in love within a matter of minutes. With sleek looks that remind us of gear for protecting photographic equipment, the waterproof outer shell has weatherproofed zippers, and ABS rubber panels around the bottom and headstock areas add to the structural rigidity.

Internally, each guitar has its own compartment, accessed by unzipping either the left or right side of the case. Inside each compartment, the instruments are secured in a very plush environment, held securely in place by a padded neck brace with a strap that runs across the fretboard. The case has room around the headstock so that your tuning pegs don’t brush against the case, and foam bumpers in the bottom of the case are split in the middle to allow room for your strap pin. With this design the guitar’s bottom rests directly against the padding, so if you drop the case hard on its ass, your guitar doesn’t crash down on the strap pin, and the foam captures the impact instead of your instrument(s). It’s a subtle detail, but a very nice one.

Storage is abundant in the M80 Dual case. The external storage compartment has a Velcro hook to attach an instrument cable (for the anal retentive gear junkie, obviously, who doesn’t want the strap to just flop around loose in the compartment like in other bags), and it has room for miscellaneous stuff like your tuner, headphones, bag of earplugs for your friends, etc. There is also a shallow zipper compartment at the headstock — useful for storing things like pens (for autographs and groupie phone numbers), cell phone, your wallet, etc. It has separate holders for these types of things inside. And the Velcro cover that secures your instrument neck to the padded neck brace has a clear zipper compartment for stashing picks. The case even has space to stash the dual shoulder straps in case you just want to carry it by one of its handles (top or side).

We loaded the case with a few guitars: our very heavy Ibanez RG-series guitar with a mahogany body and a Music Man JP6. It was very easy to transport our guitars, and so convenient! Carrying guitars in two hard cases would be far more inconvenient, and the case is so well padded and protected that we wouldn’t worry about the occasional tumble at a gig if someone knocked it over. And thanks to the rigid bottom, it even stands upright when fully loaded!

The dimensions of this case make it suited to guitars in the solid body family — don’t expect to stuff your ES 335 into one of these (but you’re OK with your Les Paul). Most rock and country guitar players should have no issues.

The Dual Bass case is identical in its feature set, but is longer to accommodate that instrument’s size difference. Mono also makes single instrument cases, and that range of products includes similar cases for acoustic guitars and semi-hollow instruments.
We have other gig bags that provide far less protection for individual guitars than this bag provides to two, and while the bag isn’t going to offer full hard case-like protection, the usefulness and cleverness of its design leaves us with no interest in using our hard cases for anything other than transportation by way of a shipping company and road crew. This is the case we’ll be carrying on board aircraft and bringing to local gigs. It is exactly what we’ve been waiting for, and with a street price under $300, it’s the case you’ve been waiting for, too. Bravo, Mono!

The man behind the throne. King Daru Jones.

I'm going to start calling Daru the King. That is his new nickname. I am saying it now and hopefully it will start to catch on. Daru is one of those cats that inspires you because he just oozes music. It's in his blood, like some kind of lineage...you could say royal lineage. The King is currently on tour with Idle Warship, Talib Kweli's super band featuring Res and rapper Graph Nobel. I hear they are sheer madness when seen live. Make some calls people...bring them to a city near you.

Daru laying some beats with Hi-Tek and Talib. Move Something. Legendary.

Vernon Reid, beyond artistry.

Simply put, Vernon Reid is an artist. Someone who transcends notes and theory and all that musical stuff. He really embodies music and makes it art. I am not saying that this hasn't been done before, but there may be some of you out there that haven't gotten to know Vernon on this level. Let's just say Vernon brings the funk in circumstances where you wouldn't expect it. He is also a killer improv guitarist who's frenetic style hasn't been seen since...Hendrix???

Here he is busting some choppers with THE LEGENDARY ROOTS.

MONOPLAYER. Vernon Reid.

DataROCK'd IT!!!

Datarock
Datarock
These photo were taken before the superman outfits were put on. When fully clothed in red jumpers, Fredrick and his mates turn into what is known as DATAROCK.
Datarock
They arrived in a van, and then destroyed the Independent with their high powered Norwegian sounds.

We spent the day with Datarock who can at times make booties shake uncontrollably when they hit the stage. There was some booty shaking as we toured through San Fran in style. The Norwegian dance/indie/post rock outfit showed us a thing or two about their whole image. No wonder we like them so much, they are total 80's throwbacks wearing the super jumpsuits and donning an image. They are supporting their newest release "Red" which is available for purchase. Who can hate a band that wrote a song about Molly Ringwald. NO ONE.

Datarock
Once considered an endangered species, the red jumpsuited datarocker is making quite a comeback here in the US of A.

AKAI APC40 + MONO 365 Pack = BFF

This is straight from the mouth of someone who is using the newest and greatest in electronic technology for music. The AKAI APC40 is going to revolutionize the way electronic artists view consoles and controllers. ABLETON will now take over the world.

Here is the 411 on this beast:

The APC40 (Ableton Performance Controller) is a dedicated controller for Ableton Live, designed by the same engineering team responsible for Akai's iconic MPC range of products. This is a dream come true for the Ableton Live community and an exciting first step into the world of Ableton Live for new users.

The APC40 features high quality controls for real-time mixing, remixing and production. 109 buttons, 16 endless encoders with LED rings, nine 45mm faders and a replaceable crossfader give musicians and producers complete control of Live's Session View, effect devices and virtual instruments.

Whether you're in the studio or on stage, DJing, making beats, running backing tracks, firing MIDI loops or triggering sound effects, you can kiss your mouse goodbye.

The APC40 was co-designed by Ableton and Akai Professional.

The MONO 365 Pack is now the APC40's BFF. We were wondering how well the unit would fit in the 365 and our good friend Trilo was gracious enough to forward a few pictures of the APC40 in our 365. This is what he said.

"I love this case - it's got room for my Akai APC40, MacBook Pro, and audio interface with plenty of room to spare. The attention to detail is fantastic, and with the waterproof case and industrial strength rubber bottom it doesn't matter where the venue is, what leaks, or who spills what - my gear's staying dry." Trilo

We will definitely be hearing from Trilo later.

The Marriage.

I know pronounce you man with band. When we first heard the news, excitement was definitely in the air. I can't picture a better match. So we are announcing here on MONO...the marriage of Matisyahu and Dub Trio. We gave the guys a quick call and they said to head on down to the studio where they would be rehearsing for this tour they are currently on.

Here's a glimpse into the carnage.

Les Claypool is currently supporting the current tour as well. Dub Trio opens up with their devastating set then jumps into Matisyahu mode for his set. The footage we obtained is crazy. This is legit.
